Jean Hoerni
Jean Hoerni was born September 26, 1924 in Geneva, Switzerland. He received a B.S degree in mathematics and a PHD in Physics from the University of Geneva in Switzerland. He is known for creating the planar process. This is a method of producing diffused junctions in semiconductor devices. A pattern of holes is etched into an oxide layer formed on a silicon substrate into which impurities are diffused through the holes.
He invented chips where they can put more information into a chip. This helps around the world because we are able to put more information into a chip and its easier when we can put more into one instead of using a great number of chips and possibly loosing them. His invention helped many people in the world and we still know him well today.
